UnitedHealthcare Partnership

Introducing Our New Partnership & Digital Health ID Card

We’re excited to announce a new partnership with UnitedHealthcare (UH), a globally recognised brand, that brings positive changes when receiving medical care in the United States (US).

Additionally, as part of our sustainability commitment, your Health ID Card is getting an upgrade. Beginning June 1, 2023, we’re introducing a new digital Health ID Card that can be easily accessed from anywhere at any time on your phone, tablet or other device.

Improved Healthcare Access

One of the key benefits of our new partnership with UH is that there is an increased likelihood that your international Health ID Card will be recognised in the US, giving medical providers confidence their international claims will be paid. For members, this means reducing the likelihood of co-pay requests and reduced out-of-pocket expenses when receiving medical care. Reminder: you always need to pre-certify overseas medical care 24-48 hours before or after service has occurred.

For members currently in the process of receiving care, your medical services will remain the same and the changes will have no impact on benefits for any in-progress care.

Our new Health ID Cards will only be available digitally making them more environmentally friendly and convenient for members. When accessing health care at home or in the US, you no longer have to worry about carrying a physical card or waiting for a replacement card to arrive by post. It can now be accessed 24/7, from anywhere, as a downloadable PDF file.

If you’re about to travel for a vacation, working remotely in the US, or have overseas medical care scheduled in the US, be sure to go online and download your new Health ID Card. You’ll need this new card to access your benefits while abroad.

If you plan to stay in Bermuda with no immediate travel plans, be sure to download your new card before your next doctor visit or other medical appointments, such as surgery, health exam, or when participating in our Thrive. programmes.
